School shootings aren't issues.
Ok where have you been? I just feel there are bigger issues out there than banning public smoking......
Which is why you created a thread devoted to the issue.
If anything, we don't have enough school shootings.
I never once said the government should regulate. I said that the person(s) should regulate what they do. With that being said, it's not very fair that something that's been going on for centuries get regulated now, but people are starting to realize the health issued caused by smoking.
Despite what the media might want you to believe, school shootings really aren't big issues. The issue arises from the fact that every single one is over-dramatized and made a national incident. Less than 1% of adolescent homicides occur at school, and the annual probability of a school experiencing a student-perpetrated homicide is about 1 in 11,520.
School shootings happen so infrequently that they shouldn't even be considered an issue; they're rare in every single sense of the word, and the only reason they're treated as anything but is due of the psychological effects of every single one being made a national incident. More children die from the fucking flu every year. Seven times more, actually.
Making school shootings a complete non-issue would be as simple as making it illegal for the media to cover them. Though a less illegal means would simply be having someone promote the fact that while an average of 17 children die each year due to a homicide at school, a full 2,500 children suffer the same fate outside of school. Maybe rather than worrying about the non-issue of school shootings we should concentrate our focus on the real issue of overall adolescent homicides.
If anything, wouldn't the widespread media coverage ENCOURAGE would-be shooters into action?
Now, why does this not surprise me. Yet another illinoiian resident pissed at Springfield. LOL Hurray for you. I have a notion to go to springfield this summer and tell the state that they are essentially fucking people. Alton, IL (down on the Mississippi River) has a river boat. The smoking ban as really fucked business for them and bars. I know a business who has lost 40% of their revenue. Thats fucking insane. Alton is loosing about 3 Million dollars in tax revenue and has to lay off 60 police officers and like 6 firefighters. Alton's budget is 60 Million a year. So 3 Million is a lot of money. At least allow it in bars and the casino's. The resturants I can agree with. Fine. But to hurt bars, and casino's. That obsurd
When it comes to peoples jobs, and hurting a towns is it really worth it to ban it. I do agree as a smoker that resturants is understandable but bars and casinos should be totally legal.
I have to agree with you on that.
You're a fucking idiot. Public places are places where the public can be without problems. These are usually places where certain things can't be done, like drinking alcoholic beverages. So why can't smoking be banned from these areas? I believe it should, because honestly, smoking is fucking gross, smelling it is just as bad, and usually people who do smoke are bums.
And please, shut up about "the land of the free, so we should be free to do what we want". We're in the most stable country, so stop your bitching.
Smoking ban's been here for ages, you just live with it. Smoke outside or don't do it at all, I guess.
No it has not, your missing the point
Since people don't drink alcoholic beverages in bars or casinos.
Been nearly 6 months now.
Yeah, I meant to refer to the likes of restaurants and other "not so smoker friendly" places.
I could care less if smoking is allowed in Casinos and Bars, you'd never catch me in either of those places anyways.
Now, what do you mean people who smoke are bums. I think your just a tad bit wrong their. I know several people who smoke who are in great health. My 54 year old father smokes and can still work along with the young punks and keep up. In fact most of the young punks who work with him can't keep up with him.. So before you call smokers bums, you better figure out how to back that statement up. I am a smoker and I am far from the word Bum.
I could care less if your family smokes, still makes them bums imo. My parents smoke and it annoys the hell out of me. They've been smoking for ages, and they're similar to what you say your father is. But it gets a little annoying when you can smell the smoke on their clothing and so on. It's just pathetic. I love my parents, but they need to quite. It's not good, it's gross, and it doesn't make anyone look cool, so really it just makes you look like a bum.
If you say so. But I think you need to know the definition of the word before you go out and call people that. A bum is someone who expects you to take care of them. Someone who looks for handouts. Someone who does not try to help themselves. Again I am no bum, my father is no bum. Grant you I will give you that it is a gross habit, but you honestly want to know something, Big tobacco helps run this countries economy. Like it or not. They have for centuries. So, I think you have to look at it. OK, if you don't like smoke and you were at my house, I would respect you and leave the room (house). But that does not mean I am a Bum. It just means I smoke and you don't. But when we support ourselves pay our bills and do things for ourselves we are not bums. Thats just a simple fact.
